Three-Day Weekender Edition: Jewish and Palestinian films occupying the same time slot, the last Dr. Gasp of the season and more fall fun!
HIGHLIGHTS
See, this is what we’re talkin’ about! If only organizers of the Maine Jewish Film Festival and Palestine Cinema Days had gotten together to coordinate the scheduling of this weekend’s screenings, locals could attend both! This Saturday night, the documentary Naila and the Uprising, about nonviolent organizing that led to the First Intifada, shows at SPACE at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, across town at The Hill Arts, the MJFF’s Sephardic Film Festival presents Seven Blessings, a film about a Jewish Moroccan family wedding, followed by a performance of Sephardic music. Luckily, the MJFF is also presenting a family festival on Sunday at the Jewish Community Alliance that includes a screening of the documentary short “Songs of the Sephardim in Izmir” and a traditional Sephardic luncheon, so people of goodwill can break bread together there. See Happenings for more details.
