SO MUCH (SECRET) WINNING!
Congratulations to the winner of our second Secret Contest, the lucky reader who got us to exactly a quarter of a thousand subscribers: Neal Jocher! Yes, that Neal Jocher, the legendary unpublished poet and underground rock musician who, as the t-shirts and stickers around town urge, did much to keep Portland gritty during his decades on the scene, most notably as a guitarist in the hard blues-rock band Welfare Mafia, a mainstay of subterranean clubs The Alehouse and Geno’s (Brown Street edition). Granted, as a commercial painter, Neal’s also done much to beautify the city, but hey, a man’s gotta eat.
Currently residing in Florida on a covert mission to ensure Paul LePage doesn’t return, Neal’s won the beverage of his choice next time we see him at Dock Fore. … Aw hell, the drinks are so cheap down there, we’ll buy him two! Thanks, dude!
