The Bollard Bulletin for July 3, 2025
Tonight's coolest concerts + the coolest art gallery & museum exhibitions in Maine
Highlights
Ah, I knew that groove sounded familiar! Before forming Cool Cool Cool in 2022, its members toured for over a decade with the group Turkuaz, blending world music with funk flavors. Now more prominently featuring female vocals in an R&B setting, the band plays two sets tonight at Oxbow Blending & Bottling (49 Washington Ave., Portland): one in tribute to Madonna, the other all originals, at 8 p.m. Tix: $27 (21+).
Fantastic free show in Portland’s Congress Square this evening: Soggy Po Boys play New Orleans funk, jazz and Mardi Gras party music spiced with Caribbean flavors at 6 p.m.
Pro tip for all you single minglers out there: Wow your date by taking them to the posh lobby of The Lincoln hotel in Biddeford (17 Lincoln St.) for a classy drink, and then, Oh, look, a live jazz band is playing! It’s singer and pianist Bess Jacques with guitarist Andy Argondizza, they start at 5:45 p.m. and play till 8:45, and it’s free for playboys like you!
Fronted by ex-Oxbow (the band, not the beer) howler Eugene S. Robinson, Buñuel makes crushing, merciless metal that writhes and twists in unpredictable directions. Murderous Again, a new project by Lydia Lunch featuring her spoken-word poetry against a backdrop of “psycho-ambient jazz noir,” opens along with Today Is the Day and Spiritual Poison at Geno’s (625 Congress St., Portland) at 7:30 p.m. Tix: $25 (21+).
