The Bollard Bulletin: December 19, 2024
Shipyard's pirate country radio show, "Phone Photos" that don't suck, and more!
HIGHLIGHT
They wear big hats yet keep a low profile, strummin’ and croonin’ in the corner of the craft-beer tasting room while city slickers scroll on their phones, half-oblivious to the clip-clop rhythm causing their feet to tap in time. Many, if not most, are outlaws, playing the subversive working-class anthems of Johnny, Willie and Waylon. They are country music slingers in a latte town, and they’re gunnin’ to win your heart.
Shipyard Radio 207, an online pirate station that exclusively streams music by Maine country acts, presents a showcase this evening at Shipyard Brewing’s Portland tasting room (27 Hancock St.) at 4:30 p.m. The lineup includes, among others, Don Campbell, Buck Edwards, Joel Thetford (subject of a recent interview in The Regulars) and Toby McAllister (also the subject of a Bollard story), an innocent emo kid sucked into the tawdry world of Country & Western years ago. It’s free and all-ages, so bring the young’uns and let’s have ourselves a good ol’ fashioned hoedown and struggle session. Yee-haw, comrade!
